Shop NowA review of the article by Ngondi et al., published on March 2, 2009 in Lipids and Health Disease. The article studies 102 healthy, overweight participants through 8 weeks. Half the group is dosed with 300 mg of African Wild Mango Seed Extract, and the other is dosed with a placebo. They were then evaluated at 4, 8, and 10 weeks for changes in anthropometrics and metabolic parameters.
African Wild Mango Seed extract is a natural health product approved by Health Canada that is derived from the the traditional West African food plant Irvingia gabonensis.
The dietary fibre in African Wild Mango Seed Extract is water soluble and are known as "bulk forming" laxatives. Essentially, this means that it keeps the stomach from emptying, which makes you stay full longer and take a more gradual time absorbing sugars. This effect can reduce the elevation of blood sugar levels that is typical after a meal.
African Wild Mango Seed extract fibre can bind to bile acids in the gut and carry them out of the body in the faeces, which causes the body to convert cholesterol into bile. This can result in the lowering of blood cholesterol as well as other blood lipids.
